Teacher guide
Everything you need to run Readanah with your classes, from your first sign-in to reports and certificates.
1. Create your account
Open the teacher console and choose Create a teacher account. Enter your title, full name, school and email, and choose a password of at least 8 characters. If you forget it, use Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen. The reset email may land in your spam folder.
2. Create a class and add students
- Under New class, type a name (for example "12A English") and choose the grade and stream. The list shows which grades already have texts.
- Open the class. Paste your students' names into Add students, one per line (copying a column from Excel works), and press Add students and create accounts.
- Each student gets a UAE nickname, an avatar and a 4-digit PIN. Other students only ever see nicknames. You can change a nickname from the list.
Add at most 45 names at a time. If Firebase pauses sign-ups for a while, the remaining students are saved as Pending. Come back later and press Create pending accounts.
3. Print PIN cards and sign students in
Press Print PIN cards. Each card has the student's nickname, avatar, class code and PIN, 10 cards per A4 page. In the print window, open More settings, set Margins to None and tick Background graphics, then cut along the dashed lines.
Students open the site and choose Student sign in. They type the class code, tap their avatar and enter their PIN on the keypad. After 5 wrong PINs, sign-in pauses for 60 seconds. If a PIN is lost or seen by others, press New PIN next to the student's name.
4. What students do
- Before each text, they look at the title and two pictures and predict what it is about.
- They read with the text and questions side by side. Highlighted words show a meaning, an Arabic translation and an example. Listen reads aloud, and there are buttons for text size, line spacing, an easy-read font and a reading ruler.
- All questions are answered by tapping, including finding the evidence sentence in the text.
- After checking, they see their score, a bar for each skill and an explanation for every question.
- A score of 70% or more earns a pearl (danah). A perfect score earns a golden one. Collecting every pearl in a unit unlocks a certificate. Badges reward skills, streaks and variety.
- They answer three quick questions about how they felt about the text. You see the class totals, never who said what.
Results are saved to the student's account, so they follow the student to any device. If the connection drops, the result is kept on the device and sent the next time.
5. Follow progress and send notes
Open a class and choose the Progress tab.
- Who may need help lists students with low scores, no recent reading, or a weak skill.
- Reading outcomes shows each student against each official Reading and Viewing outcome. A ✓ means mastered: 80% or more on 3 attempts across at least 2 texts.
- Texts shows who has read each text, the average best score, and how the class felt about it.
- Tap a student's name to see their texts, skills and badges, print their certificate with their real name, and send a note. Choose praise, a tip (one is suggested from their weakest skill) and an optional line. Presets appear in Arabic too for the student. Use Note to class to write to everyone about one text.
- Download CSV gives you the class results for Excel.
Reading reports
The Progress tab also prints two kinds of report, ready for A4 (set Margins to None and tick Background graphics).
- Class report is written for school leaders: participation, the class average, the spread of scores, skills across the class, every official Reading and Viewing outcome with the number of students who mastered it, recommendations that name the students they apply to, a table of lessons, a table of students, and signature lines for the teacher, coordinator and principal.
- Parent report is for one family: the term as a string of pearls, key figures, reading skills in plain words, curriculum outcomes in plain words, strengths, next steps, ideas to help at home that work in any language, a comment box and signature lines. Open it from a student's card, or print Parent reports (all students) one per page.
- Choose English, Arabic or English and Arabic at the top of the report. The Arabic report reads right to left, with every heading, skill, outcome and recommendation in Arabic. You can type a comment into the comment box before printing, or leave it blank and write by hand.
- A parent report always prints on one A4 page. If a student has a lot to report, the page is scaled down slightly to fit.
- Only you and your school's coordinator can open your classes' reports. A parent report never shows other students.
6. Set assignments
Open a class and choose the Assignments tab, then New assignment. Five short steps: who it is for (the whole class or ticked students), the readings (up to ten; filter by unit, week, text type or reading skill), the level (Support, Core, Stretch, or let each student choose), an optional title, instruction, start date and due date, and a final check. Publish it straight away or save it as a draft.
Students see it first under My Reading Plan when they sign in. Due dates are shown gently: a student can still finish after the date. The assignment page shows who has completed, started or not started, their first and best scores and the level they chose. Send a reminder sends a short note, with Arabic, only to students who have not finished.
Groups and suggestions. The Groups tab holds flexible groups for the class (a student can be in several; students never see them). The Progress tab now shows Suggestions: students who have not started, may benefit from Support texts, have not read for a week, need practice on one skill, or are ready for Stretch. Each suggestion says what it is based on, and offers one-click actions: assign a reading at the right level, send a reminder, encouragement or a skill tip (with Arabic), or make a group. Skill suggestions only count students with at least six questions on that skill.
Today's lesson. Press ▶ Today's lesson at the top of any teacher page, ▶ Present a text under a class on your class list or inside a class, Present next to any reading on an assignment or the Progress tab, or the gold Present button at the top of any reading text (shown when you are signed in as a teacher on that device; the ✕ in the lesson brings you back to the text). The picker remembers your last grade, lists the texts you presented recently and has a search box. The lesson shows the text on the projector: pictures to predict from, key words with Arabic, the text paragraph by paragraph, then each question with the whole text beside it, so the class answers from the text and not from memory. Show answer reveals the answer and the explanation and highlights the paragraph (or sentence) that proves it. Keys: arrows to move, Space to show the answer, F for full screen, + and − for text size. Presenting never records a result for anyone, and only teacher accounts can open it, because it shows the answers.
Attempt history and improvement. Open a student on the Progress tab to see their scores over time, each text with first and best score, and skill trends that compare earlier and recent questions (only shown when there are at least six questions on each side). The Progress tab also shows who improved on a retry in the last 30 days, with a button to send them praise. Students see the same picture of their own work under My reading journey.
Weekly goals and My Words. In My Reading Plan, each student chooses a weekly goal (1, 2, 3 or 5 texts) and sees their progress since Monday; you see the goal and how many weeks it was met in the student's detail. While reading, students can tap a highlighted word and choose Save to My Words. My Words lists their saved words with Arabic and gives a short review: words they know come back after a few days, words they don't know come back the same day. Word banks are private to the student.
Class lists. To add students, paste names one per line, paste the name column copied from Excel (other columns are ignored, and you can choose the right column), or upload a CSV file. A preview shows who will be added and who is skipped (blank, already in the class, listed twice) before anything is created. If Firebase pauses account creation, the rest are kept as Pending: press Create pending accounts later; it is safe to press more than once.
Several students at once. Tick students in the class list to give them New PINs (then print cards for just those students) or to Move them to another of your classes. A moved student keeps their results, pearls, notes, goal, words and PIN, and signs in with the new class code from then on. Their earlier attempts still appear in their detail on the Progress tab.
Without internet. Readanah no longer downloads every text on the first visit. Students save their own grade from the home page (Save for offline, with or without pictures, about 6 MB for a grade with all its pictures); guests can do the same after choosing a grade, and you can save a grade from the Present a text picker before a lesson. Saved texts open with no connection, and results are sent when the device is back online. Remove from this device frees the space.
Deleting. To delete one student, press Delete on their row; to delete several, tick them and press Delete in the bar above the list. To delete a whole class, open it, press Delete class and type the class name to confirm. Deleting is permanent: the student's sign-in, results, pearls, notes, goal and saved words are removed; a deleted class also loses its assignments, groups and class notes. If you only want to hide a class, use Archive class; to change a student's class, use Move.
Resetting progress. To let students start again (a new term, or a student who wants a fresh start), press Reset on a student's row, tick several students and press Reset progress in the bar, or press Reset progress at the top of the class for everyone. Choose what to erase: results and pearls, saved words and the weekly goal, or your notes to them. Students keep their account, nickname and PIN. Print the class report first if you want a record.
Your data. On your classes page, Your data lets you clear Readanah from the device you are using, or delete your whole teacher account with every class in it. Students have their own Your data page (the My data button on the home page) where they can clear their saved words and clear the device.
Print assignment card gives a classroom poster or four cut-out slips. The QR code opens the sign-in page with your class code already filled in. You can also duplicate an assignment, copy it as a draft to another class on the same grade and stream, archive it or delete it. Deleting an assignment never deletes any results.
7. Worksheets and certificates
Every printed page (worksheets, reports, PIN cards and certificates) carries the line Readanah Platform by Mourad Mekki. When you save a print as PDF, the suggested file name already says what is inside, for example Readanah - Parent Reading Report - Aisha Al Mansoori - 11 General A - Arabic - 2026-09-22.
After checking answers on any text, choose Print worksheet for an A4 version with the text, the pictures, a glossary with Arabic and the questions. The answer key prints on its own page. Certificates print in landscape. For both, set Margins to None and tick Background graphics.
8. Your school and coordinator
You never need a code to start. Anyone can create a teacher account and as many classes as they like; each class gets its own code, which is for your students to sign in with. Joining a school is optional and changes nothing about your classes.
If your school uses Readanah, your coordinator gives you a school code. Enter it under Join your school in the console. Your school's coordinator can then see your classes and their progress, read-only. They cannot change anything and cannot read your notes to students. You can leave the school at any time. Coordinators open School in the console header for an overview by teacher and by grade.
9. Feedback, problem reports and surveys
- Report a problem appears on every question and text when you are signed in as a teacher. Use it for a wrong answer key, an unclear question, a typo, a picture problem, or a text at the wrong level.
- Feedback in the console header lets you rate Readanah, suggest improvements and message Mr Mourad. It is anonymous unless you include your name. Keep the receipt code if you may want to withdraw it.
- Short surveys may appear when you sign in. Your answers are saved without your name.
10. When something goes wrong
A student forgot their PIN
Press Show PINs on the class page, or give them a New PIN.
A student sees "No class has that code"
Check the code on the class page. It has 6 letters and numbers and never uses O, 0, I, 1 or L.
The Listen button is missing
The device has no English voice installed. Everything else works normally.
Pictures show a pale placeholder
That text's pictures are still being prepared. The text and questions are complete.
Results didn't appear
If the connection dropped, the result is saved on the student's device and sent automatically the next time they open Readanah on that device.
